The Godavari Initiative (TGI) has been envisioned as a multi-stakeholder collaborative for promoting equitable management & source sustainability of the Godavari River Basin in Maharashtra through benefit sharing, stakeholder engagement, and practical learning.

The Godavari Initiative aims to create a multi-stakeholder collaborative platform for corporates, government, and civil society to address critical challenges related to river basin health and climate resilience, through collective action.

Our Vision

TGI envisions a resilient and thriving ecosystem for Godavari River Basin in Maharashtra that balances community well-being with ecological integrity, ensuring water security for all.

TGI: Grounded Collective Action Guided By Global Standards

On a global scale, 100 river basins have been identified as critical priorities for water stewardship, representing regions with immense potential for collective action. Notably, eight of these key basins are in India, with the Godavari River basin standing as a central focus of our efforts under TGI.

TGI represents an action platform aligned with the UN Global Compact's CEO Water Mandate, driving sustainable solutions in river basin management. Its mission is to address critical water challenges and enhance regional resilience. The initiative benefits from the expertise and support of leading global organizations ensuring a comprehensive and collaborative approach to water stewardship.
